The day came and went.  We are officially moved into our new house home.  And we’re exhausted!!

After several weeks of fixing it up and preparing for the move, we were ready to just get in.  I can’t say the house was ready, though.  We scrambled at the last minute to get a new kitchen floor down, the kids’ rooms done, extra stuff to the dump and floors cleaned up.  Move day came, and of course, it rained.  We’re used to that at this point.  Thankfully our movers were AMAZING!!!  Seriously, we didn’t have any concerns with them, and they made the whole process so much easier.  By noon on Saturday, we were left with a house full of boxes.  Our only goal for the day was to have Mason and Cooper’s rooms fixed up and ready for the big reveal HGTV-style!  Jeremy and I worked for the next three to four hours to accomplish just that.  After many “Are they ready yet?” questions, we could finally show them their new rooms.

Since Saturday, we have organized the kitchen, removed the powder room floor, tackled our closets, installed new lights, and tried to have some fun.  We’re so thankful to have had Meema here too!  We couldn’t have done it without her.

Thanks, Meema!

No rest for the weary this week either.  We have countertops being installed on Thursday and then a plumber to hook everything up on Saturday.  That means we have to have the powder room ready for a new vanity by then, which means some late evenings coming up after heading back to work tomorrow.  It should be an interesting week, and I can’t wait to share more “after” photos with you.  For now, though, I’m going to sit on the couch with my hubby and watch some TV (relishing in getting cable back!)

I am loving spring in Rhode Island!  For those that don’t follow me on Instagram, here are some of my faves…

Jeremy and I took a lunch break on his scooter. No better way to see the city!

We've also enjoyed exercising together in the afternoons.

A long time ago in a home far far away… May 4, 2013

… we celebrated May The 4th Be With You Day.  (Ok, so not that long ago.)  For those who might not be as geeky or obsessed as my family, May 4th has become somewhat of a cult holiday for fans of Star Wars.  Having a husband who loves anything Star Wars and two kids who have taken after their daddy, this is a big day.  In the past, we’ve acknowledged the holiday in passing, but this year we wanted to live it up and really get into it.  I think this is the start of a new annual tradition that can only grow from here.

Since most of the day was spent at our new house priming rooms for painting and tearing apart the kitchen, we knew the kids deserved some special treats to celebrate May the 4th.  Our afternoon/evening consisted of the following…

1.  Star Wars Lego video game on the Wii.  Check!

2.  Lightsaber Popsicles.  Check!

3.  TIE Fighter Ties.  Check!

4.  Star Destroyer Nachos.  Check!

5.  Endor Florets.  (aka broccoli) Check!

6.  Wookie Cookies.  Double Check!

7.  Watching our favorite Star Wars movie (New Hope).  Check!

8.  Star Wars bedtime stories.  Check!

Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures of our day.  But we had a lot of fun!  (Although next year, I’ll insist that everyone else wear their Star Wars T-shirts like I did!)

I’ve already got plans for next year’s May The 4th Be With You Day.  Watch out!

Moving Along May 2, 2013

Slowly but surely, we are making our new house ours by adding our own touches.  So far those touches only include Christmas decoration boxes in the basement, a lot of games to keep the kids busy and lots of wallpaper removal spray.  We have officially de-papered the kids’ rooms and their bathroom.  This weekend we hope to finish cleaning the remaining patches of glue from the walls and get primer up.  If all goes well (which it rarely does when doing home improvements on a budget and schedule), we’ll have the bedrooms completely painted and ready for decor by next weekend.

Jeremy is really loving this process! Ha!

Seriously, will it ever end?

Seriously, will it ever end?

Once we have paint on the walls, I think we’ll really see the progress.  We need something to keep us going considering we will have to do this to 6 more rooms!  But really, the time we have spent at our new house has just reminded us how fortunate we are that we got it and how excited we are to finally move in!  It will probably be several years before it is to a point where we can rest for a bit, but we are thrilled to start the process again of making it our home.

Stay tuned!
