Find Good In Every Day

One mom's attempt at finding good in every day of this chaotic world.

You and I February 3, 2011

One of my favorite songs is “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson.  It always gives me warm fuzzies, and it always conjures up thoughts of my husband – my beloved, my betrothed, my honey, my…  Yikes, I don’t want to embarrass him with all my nicknames!

I don’t think I want to get too deep into why this song makes me think of him.  It just does.  It encompasses a lot of us, a lot of our dreams, a lot of how we love.  And like I said, it just gives me the warm fuzzies.

It is my husband’s birthday today, and to honor him, I just want to write the lyrics to the song below.  This may seem like I’m cheating him out of my own heartfelt words, but trust me, the guy gets them all the time!  I love giving him cards, and I always write my own note to him on those expressing how I feel.  And yes, he’ll be getting another one of my sappy cards for his birthday today, so really why would I double up the sappiness?  Oh wait…  Writing song lyrics to a girly song is still pretty sappy, isn’t it?  Oh well.

You And I

Written by Ingrid Michaelson

Don’t you worry there my honey
We might not have any money
But we’ve got our love to pay the bills

Maybe I think you’re cute and funny
Maybe I wanna do what bunnies do with you if you know what I mean

Oh let’s get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Well you might be a bit confused
And you might be a little bit bruised
But baby how we spoon like no one else
So I will help you read those books
If you will soothe my worried looks
And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Happy Birthday, Jeremy!  I love you!
